The plan was revealed in a statement issued on Sunday in Kaduna,
signed by Etsu Nupe, His Royal Highness, Dr. Yahaya Abubakar for
chairman of the council, a copy obtained by Nigerian Pilot.
In the statement, the traditional rulers said they would explore
every legal means to ensure that desperate politicians do not foment
trouble in the region.
The council said it would do everything within its power to ensure peace and harmony in the forthcoming elections.
“In keeping with the role of traditional institutions in ensuring peace and harmony in the societies, the council calls politicians to order and ask them to avoid anything that will set their houses on fire as there is life after elections. The council expressed its deep concern over the escalating tension in the polity as political leaders continue to trade insults across the political divides without restraints. Unfortunately, some religious and ethnic leaders have joined the bandwagon thereby making matters worse,” it said.
According to them, these insults by politicians appear to draw on the rumor mill thus promoting the rumor industry, lowering further the societal standards of behavior.
